For applicants assessed under the Pre-2010 assessment process:

If you received a negative outcome for an assessment under the pre-2010 assessment process (educational qualifications only), and disagree with the assessment, you may apply to VETASSESS for a review within 90 days of issue date of this result letter. You will need to download and complete the SRG02 (b) Reassessment Request Form (for pre-2010 process negative outcomes) (PDF – 45Kb).

However, if you received a negative outcome for an assessment under the pre-2010 assessment process (academic qualifications only), and apply to VETASSESS after 90 days of issue date of this result letter, you will have to apply for reassessment as per the new SOL (GSM) or ENSOL in ANZSCO effective from 1 July 2010. Your application will be assessed by VETASSESS criteria for that ANZSCO occupation.

If you have previously received a positive assessment result for academic qualification only (under the pre-2010 process or a 485 assessment), and would like to have your skills reassessed under a different nominated occupation, download and complete the SRG08 (b) Reassessment – Change of Occupation Request Form (for pre-2010 process positive outcomes) (PDF – 53Kb). You will have to nominate an occupation from the new SOL (GSM) or ENSOL in ANZSCO effective from 1 July 2010. Your application will be assessed by VETASSESS criteria for your ANZSCO occupation.

If you received a positive assessment under the pre-2010 process and require a full assessment of qualifications and employment, you will need to download and complete the SRG1 Application for Skills Assessment form (PDF – 551Kb) as well as SRG08 (b) Reassessment – Change of Occupation Request Form (for pre-2010 process positive outcomes) (PDF – 53Kb). Additional documentation (including evidence of both relevant qualifications and employment) as described in the SRG1 Application for a Skills Assessment explanatory notes is also required. For applicants assessed under the Post-2009 (1January 2010 onwards) assessment process

If you received a negative assessment under the current assessment process and disagree with the outcome or wish to change the nominated occupation or visa type, you may apply for reassessment (review of negative outcome) within 90 days of VETASSESS issuing the original result letter. Download and complete the SRG02 (a) Reassessment Request Form (for post 2009 process negative outcomes) (PDF – 46Kb), and submit it to VETASSESS together with any additional evidence in support of your case. If you apply after the 90 days have expired, you will have to nominate an ANZSCO occupation from the new SOL (GSM/ENSOL) in ANZSCO effective from 1 July 2010 and will be assessed as per ANZSCO.

If you wish to change your nominated occupation and have previously received a positive assessment result for both academic qualifications and employment, download and complete the SRG08 (a) Reassessment – Change of Occupation Request Form (for post 2009 process positive outcomes) (PDF – 52Kb), and submit it to VETASSESS together with any additional evidence in support of your case. You will have to nominate an occupation from the new SOL (GSM) or ENSOL in ANZSCO effective from 1 July 2010. Your application will be assessed by VETASSESS criteria for your ANZSCO occupation.

Changing to an assessment to support an application for a Skilled - Graduate (Temporary) visa (subclass 485)

If you are changing from full skills assessment under GSM or ENS to an assessment for a Skilled Graduate (Temporary) visa (subclass 485), you may require a Reassessment to determine whether your qualifications meet the requirements for the Skills Assessment to support a 485 visa application, that is if you hold a qualification at the appropriate level in a highly relevant field of study to your nominated occupation for 485 visa purposes. 485 applicants can only nominate an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) that requires at least a bachelor degree level qualification. You cannot nominate an ENSOL only occupation for a 485 visa. Please contact VETASSESS to discuss whether you should submit an application for a Reassessment or a Reissue.

For applicants assessed under the Pre-2010 assessment process:

If you received a positive outcome under the Pre-2010 assessment process (academic qualifications only) towards an application for 485 subclass visa, as per arrangements with DIAC, applicants should be able to use this assessment to support their application for permanent residency.

If your case was assessed negatively under the pre-2010 criteria and your request for reassessment is received more than 90 days after the outcome letter was issued, then you will need to apply for reassessment and have to nominate an ANZSCO occupation from the new SOL (GSM) or ENSOL in ANZSCO effective from 1 July 2010. Your application will be assessed by VETASSESS criteria for the ANZSCO occupation.

It is recommended that all applicants consult the assessor for their case to discuss their options for reassessment before applying.

For applicants assessed under the Post-2009 assessment process:

Only those applicants whose Skills Assessment for permanent migration purposes is assessed positively under our new arrangements introduced from 1 January 2010, and who nominate the same occupation for the Skills Assessment for 485 visa purposes can apply for a Reissue for 485 visa purposes.

Applicants who have received a positive Qualifications only Skills Assessment to support a 485 visa application, and require a full Skills Assessment in the same occupation to support their application for permanent residency need to apply for a final Skills Assessment (qualifications and employment). For information on reassessment fees (485 visa) see below.

New SOL effective from 1 July 2010 and 485 visa applicant

Skills assessments to support an application for a 485 visa Under DIAC arrangements announced on 8 February 2010, on-shore international students seeking a Skills Assessment to support an application for a 485 visa may continue to nominate an occupation on the current SOL provided that these students lodge their 485 visa application by 31 December 2012. However, the new SOL will apply if their international student visa (subclasses 572, 573 or 574) was granted after 8 February 2010.

485 visa holders seeking permanent residency
The new SOL does not apply to applicants, who, at 8 February 2010, held a 485 visa, or had a pending 485 visa application, and who apply for a permanent or provisional on-shore GSM visa by 31 December 2012.

If applicants applied for and were granted a 485 visa after 8 February 2010 and subsequently apply for permanent residency (PR) under a GSM visa, they must nominate an occupation on the new SOL after the new SOL is implemented mid-2010.

Applicants on 485 visas may also apply for PR by seeking employer nomination under the Employer Nomination Scheme or by seeking State/Territory nomination for the Skilled Sponsored or Skilled Regional Sponsored schemes. Different lists of occupations (ENSOL and State/Territory specific lists of occupations) apply to those schemes. Check the DIAC website at www.immi.gov.au or state/terrritory government websites for further information.
