Building Designers Association endorses VETASSESS skills assessment criteria

The Building Designers Association of Australia (BDAA) has endorsed VETASSESS assessment criteria for people seeking a skills assessment for migration to Australia as:

  • Architectural, Building and Surveying Technicians nec (not elsewhere classified)
  • Building and Engineering Technicians nec

VETASSESS assesses these two occupations, now endorsed by the BDAA, Australia’s leading national peak body representing the building design community.

The endorsement means that the BDAA will work with VETASSESS to provide advice on emerging industry trends, technologies, and market needs in Australia and internationally.

Ian Bassett, Director Policy and Professional Development for Building Designers Association of Australia, said that there is an ever growing demand for building design professionals and the BDAA is keen to work alongside VETASSESS in assisting suitable candidates fulfil this need.

VETASSESS Executive Director Rob Thomason said the partnership with the BDAA will enable VETASSESS to ensure its assessment criteria remain current and meet the needs of Australian industry.

“Australian employers are looking to hire staff with these skills, and skilled migrants bring different experience from overseas projects, that enrich the knowledge available to the Australian building industry,” he said.

Architectural, Building and Surveying Technicians nec

Architectural, Building and Surveying Technicians perform technical functions to assist Construction Managers, Architects and Surveyors by supervising and inspecting construction sites, estimating time, costs and resources, inspecting plumbing work, and collecting and evaluating survey data and preparing maps and plans.

'Nec,’ or not elsewhere classified, covers occupations that are not classified elsewhere under the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) and can cover energy assessors, roof truss detailers and structural steel detailers.

Building and Engineering Technicians nec

Building and Engineering Technicians assist in the building of houses and other structural projects. A wide range of occupations is covered by this classification, including automation technician, avionics systems technician (Air Force), biomedical technician, mining detail draftsperson, and shipbuilding draftsperson.
