VETASSESS has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to collaborate on skills harmonisation and workforce mobility between Australia and India.
The agreement aims to forge deeper collaboration in skills development to enable workers from India to travel to Australia and work in industries with labour shortages, such as aged care, horticulture and automotive.
VETASSESS will conduct independent skills assessments for candidates from India to ensure they meet the requirements of Australian industry.
The Confederation of Indian Industry is an industry-led and industry-managed organisation working to create and sustain an environment conducive to the development of India. Under the MOU it will assist in the provision of training (to Australian standards) and assessment.
VETASSESS Executive Director Rob Thomason said migration has played an important part in Australia’s prosperity and India could be a leading supplier of talent to Australian industry.
“Indian workers have many skills that are in demand across both trades and the professions. Indians are one of the largest groups seeking a skills assessment from VETASSESS so they can migrate to Australia,” he said. “We are pleased to partner with the CII who are the premier business association in India.”
The Australian Government in March launched an Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement that allows Australian employers to sponsor overseas workers as temporary migrants to fill chronic labour shortages in the aged care industry.
