Land Economist is a VETASSESS Group A occupation

This occupation requires a qualification assessed as comparable to the educational level of an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor degree or higher degree, in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation.

Applicants must also have at least one year of highly relevant, post-qualification employment, at an appropriate skill level completed in the last five years.

Construction and Manufacturing Group A

Additional qualifications in a highly relevant field of study include those comparable to the following levels: 

  • AQF Diploma 
  • AQF Advanced Diploma 
  • AQF Associate Degree 
  • or AQF Graduate Diploma

** Highly relevant paid employment duration (20 hours or more per week) 

1-3 minimum years of employment highly relevant to the nominated occupation, completed at an appropriate skill level in the five years before the date of application for a Skills Assessment. 

4 minimum 4 years of relevant employment required – three years of relevant employment (can be outside the last 5-year period) in addition to at least one year of highly relevant employment within the last five years before applying.

A positive assessment of both qualifications and employment is required for a positive Skills Assessment Outcome.

Qualification and Employment Criteria

AQF Bachelor degree or higher degree*

Land Economics is the study of economic principles applicable to the use of land.

Other closely related majors such as Property or Real Estate may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Degrees with general Economics units without subjects in Property/Land Economics/Valuation would not be assessed positively.

* This includes qualifications assessed at AQF Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level.

Highly relevant tasks include:

  • Providing advice on land and property financing and valuation matters;
  • Researching and advising on the administration and use of land and property;
  • Developing and implementing sales and leasing proposals for commercial land and property;
  • Providing asset management services for the administration and use of land and property;
  • Analysing land and property investments;
  • Managing land and property portfolios and commercial property developments.

Employment information

Land Economists specialise in property sectors such as industrial, commercial, rural and retail, or in property research or property investment analysis. Roles with a primary focus on valuations, property management, urban and regional planning and design would not be considered relevant to the occupation of Land Economist.
