The Australian Property Institute (API) has endorsed the VETASSESS skills assessment criteria for the occupation of Valuer.
The endorsement means that valuers seeking a skills assessment to migrate to Australia can be assured the assessment criteria meet the requirements of Australian industry.
Australia has a shortage of valuers, with many different roles available, said Australian Property Institute Chief Executive Officer, Amelia Hodge.
“It is a diverse, exciting career that touches every aspect of the Australian economy,” she said.
Institute members in Australia work in private practice and the public sector, providing valuation advice to the finance sector, institutional owners, insurers and government. Some specialise in valuing plant and equipment, which can encompass rural and manufacturing plant, airline and cruise fleets.
The shortage of valuers is being felt particularly in regional areas, where work can include providing an independent valuation to help family farm businesses plan for succession.
The Institute has memoranda of understanding with international peers so the basis of the Australian standards will be familiar to most valuers planning to migrate, said Ms Hodge.
VETASSESS Executive Director Rob Thomason said the API’s endorsement means valuers planning to migrate to Australia can be assured their skills assessment will use relevant criteria.
“The API is the leading organisation representing property valuers and its advice is invaluable to VETASSESS in ensuring our assessment criteria are up to date and meet the needs of employers and organisations requiring the services of a valuer,” he said.
